A quiet corner of Wulingyuan, twenty-two rooms, and a name that took a while to arrive at.
Our name
The name started as
a plan to stop working
It was going to be 度余生 — to spend whatever years were left doing as little as possible. The picture was specific. A small shop on an old street, and a week that changed with the weather: sunny, so you go and buy stock; raining, so you sit inside and write; overcast, so you do nothing at all and watch the street; snowing, so you shut the door and stay in.
Then we turned forty — the age Chinese calls 不惑, “no longer bewildered” — and found we wanted to build something after all.
So we kept the sound and changed one character. 余 means the remainder, what's left over. 榆 is the elm. An elm is not a fast tree: it puts its roots down, spreads slowly, and keeps its leaves further into the year than almost anything else on the street. Standing in Wulingyuan, where the sandstone has been in place for hundreds of millions of years, that felt like the right sort of ambition — not to be impressive, but to still be here.
The English name, Devoshine, says the same thing from the other side: devotion, and whatever it gives off. It describes how we'd like to treat a stay. It makes no claims about the building.

Xu Feizhou
Chief Designer
Leads the spatial design on every project, working where Eastern aesthetics meet contemporary practice. Treats each detail as a way of acknowledging the landscape.
Chen Zongyuan
Founder / CEO
Fifteen years in hospitality. His job is turning Wulingyuan's natural character into something that also works as a business.
Li Yajun
Operations Director
Built the operating standards the hotel runs on, and the training that stops them drifting once nobody is watching.
Wang Siyuan
Brand Director
Runs the creative side of the brand and its reach abroad — the story that travels out from a side street in Wulingyuan.
Also worth saying. Devoshine is twenty-two rooms on a side street, not a resort: no pool, no gym, and nobody at the desk at three in the morning. What you get instead is a ten-minute walk to the park gate, a team that speaks your language, and a building small enough that somebody notices when your room isn't right. If you want the first list, we're the wrong hotel. If you want the second, come and stay.
